Molecular medicine: 16 years of research in the immune system now pay off
- Since 1992, a research team from the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Aarhus headed by Associate Professors Lars Sottrup-Jensen and Gregers Rom Andersen has determined the three-dimensional structure of proteins participating in the immune defense system. The researchers have now succeeded in describing the structure of a key protein from the human immune system, and these results pave the way for new strategies for preventing for instance the rejection of transplanted organs.
