CALL FOR CANDIDATES FOR THE POST OF SECRETARY GENERAL OF PROTON EUROPE
Background
ProTon Europe was created in 2002 as a thematic network of university and public research centre knowledge transfer offices. The network is now a self-funded professional association of over 250 institutional members with its own programme of activities and secretariat to serve the membership.
Tasks
The post offers interesting and challenging tasks associated with building and shaping a fledgling professional activity. The Secretary General will be expected to take both an operational and a strategic role. He/she will develop and implement ProTon Europe’s strategy, as decided by the Board, and report to the Chairman on operational matters. Current activities include delivery of services to members, lobbying and representation, an annual survey, an annual conference, training schools, expert workshops and the collection of good practice made available via the website. He/she will also represent the association vis-à-vis the members, the partner associations (national and international networks of knowledge transfer professionals) and other stakeholders, such as the European Commission.
Qualifications and skills
The ideal candidate should be familiar either with running a professional membership association or with the knowledge transfer function in universities and/or public research organizations. He/she should have strong operational skills combined with strategic vision, be dynamic, flexible and able to work under pressure, with impressive communication and language skills as he/she will operate in a multi-cultural environment. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to initiate and follow through ideas and plans for the success of the Association. He/she will also have excellent IT skills. A good knowledge of the functioning of the European Commission would be an additional advantage, as would excellent writing skills, particularly in preparing briefs.
Conditions
This is a full-time appointment. Salary will be by negotiation. Candidates may be self-employed, or may seek a contract of employment with ProTon Europe. Secondments are welcomed. Conditional on the nature and term of the employment contract a 4 day week (pro rata) may be considered.
